About Us
Welcome to Richland Parks & Recreation
The roots of Richland Parks & Recreation date back to 1911, when land along the Columbia River was established as the city’s first public park, now known as Howard Amon Park. This marked the beginning of organized recreation in the community, creating a space for gatherings, outdoor activities, and connection. Over the decades—especially during the growth of the 1940s—these early parks helped shape a strong sense of community, eventually evolving into the department we know today. Now, Richland Parks & Recreation serves residents of all ages by offering a wide range of programs, leagues, events, and well-maintained parks and facilities, all focused on promoting active lifestyles, fostering community connections, and enhancing quality of life.
